Antwerp - street art zones

Meeting of styles

Every year, the old "gasworks" is the setting for the international graffiti event "Meeting of Styles" This event takes place around the iconic "Zomerfabriek" and covers the Minkelersstraat, the Krugerstraat, the Uitbreidingsstraat and the Vlijtstraat. More than 4,000 square meters of brick turn into a canvas every year and are brought to life by almost 100 national and international artists, each showcasing their own styles and techniques.

Boomsesteenweg

In 2018, the "PillaAr 12" street art project was launched on the Boomsesteenweg with the aim of bringing together local, national and international artists to embellish the pillars of the bridge and motorway. More than 100 artists and creatives have painted the pillars. Everyone is given carte blanche although there were some color restrictions. Since then, new works have been painted on the pillars from time to time.

Fietspad Jef Van Linden

The 100-metre-long wall along the Jef Van Linden cycle path, located between Emiel Vloorsstraat and Commandant Van Laethemstraat in Hoboken, has been a recognised zone for street art since June 2015. This means that you can practice freely and develop your talents. This initiative makes space available where street artists can show their work. Young people also get the chance to practice graffiti art legally.

Scheldelaan-Kruisschansweg

The 900-metre-long wall on the Scheldelaan is intended to guarantee flood protection in the area. Because colour is welcome in this industrial environment, De Vlaamse Waterweg nv and Havenbedrijf Antwerpen (Antwerp Port Authority) enlisted the help of graffiti artists. About 200 young people, under the guidance of some professional graffiti artists, brightened up the wall with graffiti and paintings. There are plans to regularly replace the paintings with new ones.

Noorderlaan

The support posts and walls of the Noorderlaan Bridge in Park Spoor Noord together form a recognized street art zone. Graffiti and other street art can be applied here freely. Many national and international artists have already unleashed their talent here. Moreover, the zone is also used by companies that provide workshops as creative company outings for employees. All kinds of social organizations are also launching projects to better integrate certain groups into society.

Station Berchem

Numerous graffiti jams were organized in this station, where artists come together to create street art. The first took place in 1996 with the intention of painting the yellow bridge (inner canal under the tracks). In the summer of 2015, the graffiti artist Cazn started working on the walls of platforms 6 and 7. He invited fellow artists and together they took care of 800m². In the summer of 2023, those same walls were given a makeover with artists from all over the country.
